(French to English Translation Below)

Singer, guitarist and songwriter Donna Herula is an active member of the Chicago blues scene. She specializes in fingerpicking and slide guitar, specialties she teaches at the Old Town School of Folk Music, and her register is extensive: Delta and country blues, early Chicago blues, folk, roots and Americana. She is a regular at Buddy Guy's Legends and other clubs, like blues festivals.

For this third album, she and her husband Tony Nardiello (vo, gt), went to Chapel Hill in North Carolina to work with producer / guitarist Jon Shain and partners like Doug Hammer (p), Dana Thalheimer (dms) , Tony Pons (tp), Bill Newton (hca) and guests like Annie Harris (violin) on Got What I Deserve (…The vagaries of motherhood!) And Daryl Davis (p). Herula composed 11 of the 14 songs and among the covers she sings a duet with Nardiello in a nostalgic Jackson (Lucinda Williams). There is also a superb version of Fixin 'To Die (Bukka White) in super excited and slide guitar mode and, in the same register, Soul Of A Man (Blind Willie Johnson). The album starts with Bang At The Door (an ex-boyfriend comes to annoy her, late at night), on a rumba rhythm followed by Pass The Biscuits , a tribute to D.J. Sonny Payne (King Biscuit Time, Helena, Arkansas) in New Orleans mode. On the happy Can't Wait To See My Baby -an ode to frozen lovers -, Donna Herula and Tony Nardiello sing and play a duet while in Promise Me, very melancholy, Donna, on the acoustic guitar, evokes the sadness of a woman whose lover is in prison. She adds a layer with Not Lookin 'Back which reports a breakup with a partner who takes drugs. Return to the unbridled swing in I Got No Way Home which moves with enthusiasm. Also note Black Ice, an instrumental removed with Herula in a stunning slide solo and Something's Wrong With My Baby (the galley when you love a man in the middle of a depression) where she works wonders with her 1935 National Steel Triolian. A treat from start to finish for all lovers of guitar, slide and picking. To completely satisfy us, the texts of the songs are included in the cover notes.

FRENCH

Of A Man (Blind Willie Johnson).
