"Bang at the Door" Reviews

People are going to start talking about Donna Herula, beginning with her superlative guitar prowess. Herula managed to bring out an album with the female perspective. Who’s Been Cookin’ in My Kitchen is a clever and sexy double entendre number that lets Herula shine. She takes no prisoners on her raucous rendition of Bukka White’s Fixin’ to Die, thunderously flailing her slide across the resonator… Bang at the Door has it all...Frank Matheis, Living Blues | FULL REVIEW

"It’s the best acoustic blues and roots album I’ve heard in at least a year, if not longer...I don’t think I can pick out a favorite cut here because they are all superb."Steve Jones, Chicago Blues Guide | FULL REVIEW

Herula delivers a set that is powerful, passionate, and a great listen. The originals here draw from personal experience, giving them a level of power not found in much of the current blues scene.Bill Wilson, Reflections in Blue | FULL REVIEW

With this album, Donna Herula is making a statement, testifying song after song to her talents as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. And when you are finished listening, you will no doubt agree that she deserves recognition as one of the finest purveyors of the acoustic blues traditions on the scene today.Mark Thompson, Blues Music Magazine

Donna Herula creates an acoustic gem with "Bang at the Door"Jim White, Blues Roadhouse | FULL REVIEW

"Black Ice” and [Donna & Tony’s version of] Lucinda Williams’ “Jackson,” are the kind of masterful performances that I’d like to say should be mandatory listening in music class.Peter "Blewzzman" Lauro, Mary 4 Music | FULL REVIEW

We have a truly gifted virtuoso of the Resonator guitar who also possesses the most stunning of voices. Herula is a Chicago born Blues artist of the highest order who not only sings, plays slide but also is a more than accomplished composer.Peter Merrett, PBS 106.7 Melbourne, Australia | FULL REVIEW

A wonderful resonator and bottleneck led blues album that with repeated listens, reveal the layers of a simple, yet complex, slice of blues covering the past, present and future of our beloved genre.Tom Dixon, Bluesdoodles | FULL REVIEW

"Bang At The Door" is an exceptional album, which at its core, brings great blues in its traditional atmosphere…An impressive musical mix carried by the influence of the traditions of The New Orleans, Delta, Piedmont and Hill Country Blues will undoubtedly win you over, as it did myself…In this story no matter what, she [Donna] is not alone…Collaborating with associated musicians simply just took her to a very challenging, higher level of presentation form…We actually hear that she can do just about anything.Mladen Loncar (Mike), Soundguardian (Croatia) | FULL REVIEW

"Donna Herula is a slide guitar star for the 2020s and beyond."Blues Blues | FULL REVIEW
