Donna Herula is a guitar teacher at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, where she teaches fingerstyle and slide guitar. She therefore has a real mastery of the technique. For this third album to her credit she is on vocals and resonator guitar (National Steel Triolian, National Steel Tricone, National ResoRocket), the way she uses her instrument is brilliant and her voice is strong and pleasant. According to the titles she is accompanied by FJ Ventre on double bass, Jon Shain on mandolin, Tony Nardiello on guitar, Doug Hammer on piano, Dana Thalheimer on drums, Tony Pons on trumpet, Bill Newton on harmonica and violinist Anne Harris as well as pianist Daryl Davis. The album recorded at the Good Luck Studio in Chapel Hill,Fixin 'To Die ' by Bukka White, ' Jackson ' by Lucinda Williams, ' The Soul Of A Man ' by Blind Willie Johnson). Donna Herula covers a wide musical variety ranging from gospel to jazz through many styles of blues and ragtime as they were played a few decades ago in New Orleans, the Delta, Chicago, the Piedmont or the Mississippi. A very pleasant sound tour.
